Meet our Board of Directors

Our Board of Directors is comprised of community members and bakers. Each board member brings a different expertise to the team. The Community Cakes board meets monthly for a virtual board meeting, and annually in person. Our board is responsible for running the day-to-day operations of our organization. All board members are volunteers and manage partner relationships, onboard new bakers, organize events, manage grant applications, purchase and organize supplies, and work to spread the mission of Community Cakes.

Community Cakes would not be possible without the other volunteers who keep this organization going. Volunteer bakers (you!) are the key to this organization. We also have ambassadors who onboard and manage new bakers. In addition, we recently added administrative volunteers who help to manage cake requests from our growing list of partners. Every volunteer including our volunteer bakers, ambassadors, and board members are unpaid.

  • Kathy is the incredible driving force and vision behind Community Cakes. It was her, and Alice’s inspiration that created the organization and keeps it going today. Kathy works directly with the other board members to ensure that Community Cakes is running smoothly. As executive director, she often has the opportunity to be the spokesman for the charity as well. In the big scheme of Community Cakes though, Kathy ensures that the organization stays true to its mission and continues to grow and develop.

When Kathy’s not busy managing this incredible charity, she and her business partner Penny are running their own bakery, The Sweet Spot in Caldwell, Idaho. Kathy and her husband Heath have two sons, Sam and Brett. As a busy family, she says it’s important to her to include charity in their lives. ‘I want people to realize how easy it is to give back.’

President & Social Media Maven

  • Alice has been a part of Community Cakes since its inception and for long before that planning and dreaming with Kathy. Alice is an integral part of the organization. As vice president, Alice organizes all of the additional events that Community Cakes takes on like the annual Valentine’s for Community Heroes, National Adoption Day, and any of our TV or media appearances. As our ambassador liaison, she helps to connect new bakers with our ambassadors and also helps to train and onboard new ambassadors.

“Birthday parties have always been an important part of my life. It is the one day a year that is just for you! As a child I was even known to make my own birthday cake just in case someone forgot.” Alice has enjoyed baking birthday cakes for her two sons and contributing to her community through Community Cakes. “The best part of life is making someone feel loved on their special day”.

Vice President & Ambassador Liaison

  • Hadley joined Community Cakes in the early stages of its development in 2011. She was looking for a way to give back while still working full-time. This organization was perfect for her busy lifestyle and allowed her to spend more quality time baking with her sister, Morgan. Being the secretary for Community Cakes fits her personality perfectly. She is very organized so taking meeting minutes, gathering paperwork for fundraising, and other business-related tasks are second-nature for her. Hadley also tries to find time to bake as much as possible. She finds joy in baking and has a flair for decorating cakes with nontraditional materials like fresh flowers, toys, and candy.

Hadley lives in Boise with her husband Josh, their sons Cason and Boden, and their dog Rocko. She loves running on the greenbelt, watching her boys play sports, and taking their boat out on a Friday evening.

When she’s not playing, Hadley works for the Department of Health & Welfare as a Case Manager for children with disabilities. “There are so many people that have so little. It’s important to me to help others, especially on their birthday.”

Executive Director, Secretary & Manager of Chaos

  • Linda began as a Baker with Community Cakes in 2011, joining the Board in 2014 as the Director of Recruitment, a position she held for several years. She now coordinates the purchasing and organizing of baking supplies for the quarterly Pantry Parties, where bakers can pick up these supplies free of charge. She also puts together the new Baker Welcome gift bags that are given to each new baker at their home visits.

A special moment occurred early in Linda's baking career with Community Cakes. Her then-teenage son asked why she was spending so much time baking and decorating a cake for someone she didn't know. She explained that the cake might be the only gift that person received for their birthday. It was a great life lesson for a teenager to learn that he was pretty lucky and to be thankful for all he had!

Linda and her husband Kim have been married for over 30 years and have one son, Conor, one daughter-in-law, Courtney, and two grandsons, Sawyer and Finn. She works full-time at Fidelity National Title as a Senior Escrow Officer and is looking forward to retirement in a few years. Linda enjoys traveling, reading, puzzles, making jewelry, and many other crafts. Her favorite thing to do is spend time with family at their cabin in Pine, Idaho.

  • Julia is the newest member of the Community Cakes board.

She started as a baker in 2016 and quickly offered to take on more and more responsibilities with our organization. In 2022 she volunteered to teach cake decorating classes and has submitted numerous recipes to the website. She continued to offer her skills and time, looking for potential fundraising opportunities including our Fred Meyer reward program, Cafe Zupas fundraising night, Pacific Recycling, and many more. We welcomed her as an "official" board member in 2024.

  • Kacey began decorating cakes as a kid in 4-H, following in the footsteps of her mom, a baker and cake decorator. What started as a fun family hobby grew into a lifelong passion, and she went on to work professionally as a cake decorator for more than eight years.

After seeing her family in Boise involved with Community Cakes, Kacey wanted to bring that same mission to North Idaho. When she couldn’t find a local chapter, she reached out — and helped launch Community Cakes North Idaho, based out of Coeur d’Alene.

Kacey loves using her creative skills to serve others and build community connections. When she’s not baking, she enjoys photography, camping, and spending time outdoors with her husband and two young daughters.

  • Looking for a way to give back, Julia Gulbransen joined Community Cakes as a volunteer baker in 2020 and is excited to be on the board to help with whatever she can.

She and her husband, Doug, are raising seven busy kids, so life is always on the go. You’ll usually find her at a game or music performance, but she also enjoys volunteering, reading, being a mom, and travelling whenever she can.

Julia dabbles in creative projects and runs Goody G’s, her online shop with a little bit of everything. Being part of Community Cakes is a perfect fit—it gives her the chance to bake, serve others, and help make someone’s day a little sweeter.
